codognato (founded 1866)

Simeone Codognato founded his eponymous firm in Venice in 1866. Born in Venice, Italy, Codognato's early exposure to the city's rich cultural heritage fueled his passion for creating exceptional jewelry. Specializing in Gothic and macabre designs, he developed a distinctive style that set his creations apart. His son Attilio inherited the store in 1897 and gained a reputation for creating idiosyncratic memento mori pieces featuring skulls and snakes, as well as Shakespearean-inspired blackamoor jewels. It was Simeone’s great-grandson, Attilio (son of Mario), who established Casa Codognato in 1958 and attracted a discerning clientele, including European aristocracy and celebrities.

The family-owned business, now helmed by Mario and Cristina (Attilio’s children), remains an iconic presence in the jewelry world. Codognato's timeless designs, characterized by a fusion of tradition and avant-garde aesthetics, continue to captivate connoisseurs. With a flagship boutique at Calle Vallaresso, in the same original Venetian location, Codognato remains synonymous with exquisite craftsmanship, artistic innovation, and a unique blend of history and modernity.
