GILBERT ALBERT (1930-2019)
Gilbert Albert, born in 1930, in Geneva, Switzerland, enrolled at the École des Arts Industriels in Geneva at the age of fifteen, where he focused on jewelry and design. He developed an unconventional and eclectic style, deeply shaped by his admiration for modern art, particularly the works of Constantin Brancusi and Piet Mondrian. At the age of seventeen, Albert joined the horological house of Patek Philippe as a designer and workshop head for seven years. During this time, he created innovative asymmetrical models, including those from the “Ricochet” series, showcasing his unique design approach. These styles are considered legendary in the world of horology and are coveted by the world’s most discerning watch collectors.
Albert also collaborated with Omega where he made equally revolutionary and daring designs, timepieces considered closer to works of art than watches. In 1962, Albert decided to devote himself to jewelry and opened a workshop in Geneva. He later expanded the business by opening boutiques in Zurich, Moscow, and Dubai.
Gilbert Albert was the most awarded jeweler in the history of the Diamonds International Awards. He received ten: three for Patek Philippe creations, two for Omega, and five for his own.
