GIORGIO FACCHINI (b. 1947)
Giorgio Facchini, an Italian jeweler and sculptor, was born in Fano, Italy, in 1947 and learned the skills of goldsmithing at a young age. By his twenties, he was world-renowned. Facchini studied with sculptor Edgardo Mannucci and, following in the tradition of Arnaldo and Giò Pomodoro, blurred the distinction between jewelry and sculpture with forward-thinking, abstract yet wearable designs in gold and precious stones. Notably, each piece is one of a kind.
Facchini is interested in the relationship between light, time, and sculptural and architectural space. His dynamic, futuristic pieces incorporate geometric motifs and kinetic elements. In 1969, Facchini created jewels for Pierre Cardin’s Autumn/Winter collection in Paris. He was commissioned to do work for the international jewelry trade show AUREA, held in Florence in 1972, 1974, and 1976, with a view to inspire more creative mainstream jewelry design. During his long career, Facchini has been closely associated with the Spoleto Festival. In 1974, he created the festival’s commemorative medal. Facchini currently works out of his studio in Pesaro, Italy.
The latest exhibition of his jewelry, alongside the work of other Italian and European master artist-jewelers, was presented in Spoleto, Italy, in 2018. His work was also included in the exhibition Scultura Aurea. Art Jewelry for a New Renaissance at Palazzo Ducale, Urbino, in 2019.
