ILLARIO (founded 1920)
Founded in 1920 in Valenza, Italy, Carlo, Vincenzo, and Luigi Illario established a renowned jewelry firm, with Vincenzo and Luigi overseeing business while Carlo, a skilled goldsmith from Maison W. Wisoune in Paris, focused on design. They curated a skilled team, boosting the company's prestige with offerings from high-end to medium jewelry, chains, accessories, and objets d'art.
In 1935, Illario received the official maker's mark "26 AL," marking remarkable growth from 22 employees in 1925 to 80 in 1938. Despite World War II challenges, manufacturing persisted. The post-war era saw the iconic SERPENTI necklace, bracelet and ring designs, featuring articulated scales and realistic snake heads adorned with precious stones. By the 1960s, Serpenti bracelets evolved with sophisticated sheet gold scales and gemstone embellishments, becoming iconic in Illario's repertoire.
By the 1960s, the brothers exhibited globally and crafted for prestigious jewelers like Bulgari and Faraone. In 1963, the company became Carlo Illario e Fratelli spa. In the 1970s, inspired by ready-to-wear trends, Carlo explored extension lines, including the modernist collection Giò Caroli. Today, Carlo's grandsons continue the family tradition with a forward-looking perspective.
