JACQUELINE RYAN (b. 1966)
Jacqueline Ryan is a British goldsmith, born in 1966, currently based in Todi, Italy. Ryan was born in London and conducted her studies in England. She completed the foundation course at the Harlow Technical College, Essex, in 1985, then went on to pursue a BA in Jewelry & Metalwork from the West Surrey College of Art, Farnham, and an MA specializing in jewelry and goldsmithing at the Royal College of Art in London from which she graduated in 1991. The following year, she moved to Padua, Italy, with the goldsmith Giovanni Corvaja, where they worked together for nine years.
Ryan’s work is recognized by its complex, detailed forms executed in high-karat gold and offset by enamel and/or semiprecious stones. The artist first plans out her pieces by creating paper models and then turns those into gold. Inspired by nature, her jewels are organic and sculptural, textured and multilayered.
This celebrated goldsmith's work has been exhibited worldwide at prestigious art fairs, museums, and galleries. Her jewelry resides in over fifteen public collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris; Museum für Künst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, Germany; Museo degli Argenti, Florence, Italy; Alice and Louis Koch, Switzerland; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
