JOHN IVERSEN (b.1953)
John Iversen, born in 1953 in Hamburg, Germany, is an accomplished jeweler and goldsmith known for his wearable sculptures. His career began at age fifteen when he studied at the College for Metal Industries in Düsseldorf, later interning with his uncle Karl H. Stittgen in Vancouver. This experience, combined with the diverse influences of Vancouver’s nature and culture, deeply impacted his artistic vision.
In 1978, Iversen moved to New York City, where his work eventually gained recognition through Artwear, a renowned SoHo gallery. His designs, often inspired by natural forms like leaves and pebbles, start as sketches before being transformed into intricate jewelry. Iversen’s creations, such as the “Pebble River” bracelet and “Double Jacks” earrings, are celebrated for their tactile appeal and movement.
Iversen’s unique technique, similar to lost-wax casting, focuses on capturing the essence of natural elements rather than replicating them exactly. Now based in East Hampton, he continues to create innovative pieces that are both visually striking and deeply connected to their maker’s emotions.
