TONY DUQUETTE (1914-1999)

Tony Duquette, born in Los Angeles in 1914, was an internationally acclaimed American artist and designer, celebrated for his eclectic and opulent style that spanned interiors, costumes, and jewelry. Duquette's big break came in the early 1940s when he was discovered by Elsie de Wolfe, a prominent arbiter of taste. Her patronage established Duquette as a leading designer in Los Angeles.

Duquette's talent quickly drew the attention of Hollywood, where he worked extensively for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), creating lavish costumes and sets. His film-industry work was characterized by a blend of fantastical elements and meticulous craftsmanship. His interior designs adorning the homes of prominent figures such as Mary Pickford, Doris Duke, Norton Simon, and J. Paul Getty showcased his ability to infuse luxury and whimsy into diverse spaces.

Throughout his career, Duquette's work in theater and opera further highlighted his versatility, with stunning designs for ballets and operas.
