In 2016, Mahnaz Collection curated and, in collaboration with Wright, designed the exhibition ”Forma Livre The Jewelry of Brazil’s Burle Marx Brothers “ representing the best of Brazilian twentieth century modernist jewelry design. The exhibition opened on June 2nd 2016 and closed on June 25th, 2016. The exhibition featured unique works designed by the renowned polymath, painter and landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx and works made by the renowned master Rio jeweler, Haroldo Burle Marx. Burle Marx jewelry was revolutionary in its time, breaking away from the classic mold of decorative post 1940 jewelry and taking the field into new artistic and modern terrain. The jewelry became known for the use of many shades of yellow gold and a magnificent array of Brazilian colored gemstones in a pioneering forma livre, or free form style cut. he creations of the two Burle Marx brothers deserve significant attention and appreciation in the world of jewelry. Roberto’s influence on modernist jewelry design is far less known than his other artistic contributions while Haroldo’s jewelry and lapidary work, coveted by a global twentieth century collector elite, deserve greater recognition today. To learn more about the Burle Marx brothers and see fine and rare examples of their jewelry please reserve your copy. A new catalogue, with recently acquired works, is being published in Winter 2019 and will be available here.
