MAHNAZ COLLECTION
A SUBLIME EXPERIENCE
JEWELS • TIMEPIECES • OBJECTS
Our collections are for you - THE STYLISH, DESIGN AND ART ORIENTED, independent-minded jewelry enthusiast and collectorS who find SUBLIME beauty in original, hand-made, one-of-a-kind, vintage, MODERN and CONTEMPORARY JEWELS, TIMEPIECES AND OBJECTS. VERSATILE AND WEARABLE, THEY ARE for all of us drawn to THE EXCEPTIONAL CRAFTSMANSHIP OF YESTERDAY, WHERE THE SLOW HAND OF THE MAKER reigned supreme.
MOST OF OUR COLLECTION WAS made since 1960. (BUT WHO CAN RESIST MIXING IT UP WITH OUR SELECT AND FINE ANTIQUE AND ANCIENT PIECES?). These works have been made by FORWARD-THINKING, EXPERIMENTAL, AND MUCH CELEBRATED designers, artists, gold/silversmiths and watchmakers.
covering DISTINCT geographIES, from Helsinki to Hopi, OUR COLLECTIONS ARE YET KNITTED TOGETHER, INSPIRED BY NATURE and LANDSCAPES, ANCIENT MATERIALS LIKE RICH YELLOW GOLD, EARTHY STONES SUCH AS TURQUOISE, LAPIS, RHODOCHROSITE, AGATES, AS WELL AS ROUGH DIAMONDS, BAROQUE PEARLS, GREEN TOURMALINES, AND MORE. ABOVE ALL, THE COLLECTIONS CELEBRATE THE POWER OF VISIONARIES, FROM SCULPTORS TO METALSMITHS, TO IMAGINE AND CREATE BEAUTY IN OUR ARTS AND CULTURE, AS THEY HAVE SINCE MAN WORE HIS FIRST BEAD ON A STRING. (AND REMEMBER, HE WORE THE BEAD BEFORE HE DONNED CLOTHES.) WE ALSO CELEBRATE THOSE WHO EXPERIMENT WITH NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND MAKE POSSIBLE NEW FUNCTIONS AND DESIGN AESTHETICS IN THE WORLD OF TIMEPIECES.
OUR SIGNIFICANT JEWELS STAND THE TEST OF TIME. YES, THEY CAN BE AN ASSET, OFTEN EXPONENTIALLY INCREASING IN $$$ VALUE AS OUR DESIGNERS AND ARTISTS GAIN RENOWN. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THESE ARE your treasureS, WORN WELL OVER TIME, ON WHICH YOU HAVE IMPRINTED YOUR IDEAS OF BEAUTY, YOUR HIGH LIFE AND LOW TIMES. MAHNAZ COLLECTION JEWELS ARE BEST KEPT in the “Family”, USED TO seal a promise, and TO pass on to loved ones. CARRYING THEIR PRovenance, YOUR OWN STORIES. AND READY TO TAKE ON THEIR NEXT “BODY. FOR A JEWEL, AS ART SMITH SO WELL SAID, ONLY TRULY BECOMES A JEWEL WHEN IT IS WORN ON THE HUMAN BODY.

We are especially recognized for our expertise in jewelry made by forward-looking, independent, designers, ARTISTS AND goldsmiths, from North and South America, iMPORTANTLY HIGHLIGHTING Indigenous peoples, and from Britain, GERMANY, FRANCE and the Nordic Countries.
You will find distinctive, one-of-a-kind, modernist works; signed vintage design classics from independent jewelers and high houses; artist AND DESIGNER CREATED works of conceptual excellence, technical virtuosity, and material boldness; AND museum-quality Indigenous U.S. Native American jewelry. THE WORK OF pioneering AND CONTEMPORARY women artists and designers TRAVERSES OUR COLLECTIONS.
Across the collections, you will ALSO find yellow gold and THE colored gems AND HARDSTONES FAVORED DURING the LATE 1960s and 1970s that best represent these decades of change. Then, jewelers connected with Nature more directly, embraced textured surfaces, and innovative and design-led watchmakers focused on futurism. THESE DECADES CONTINUE TO HOLD OUR FASCINATION IN FASHION AND LIFESTYLE TODAY. They are, indeed, about style.
Mahnaz Collection started collecting and selling UNIQUE jewelry and timepieces at the gallery’s inception. Whenever a jeweler was a gifted artist with technical know-how who also made watches, Or vice versa (Think Gilbert Albert for Patek Phillipe and Omega, Andrew Grima just once for Omega… there is a short list of legends); or who used hardstones and unique gems to design and embellish their rich gold watchbands (think Piaget in the 1970s); or who expressed their unique design sensibility in both jewelry and watches, THEY were purchased and sold. (Between us, Mahnaz’s favorite artist-timepiece designer is the one who died far too young, the Spaniard, Augustin Julia Plana, and his Swiss watchmaker partner, Simon Schlegel.)
We are known for OUR knowledge-based WORK - the depth of our design and cultural research, PUBLICATIONS, AND SUPERIOR QUALITY EXHIBITIONS. the distinctive jewels and jeweler histories we identify and source in a range of collecting areas, When brought together, TELL IMPORTANT STORIES, INCLUDING THE UNIQUE STORY OF MODERNISM’S MULTIFACETED WRIT, alongside those FOCUSED ON BALANCING MODERNITY WITH ENDURING cultural traditions and TECHNIQUES in jewelry.
WE ARE HIGHLY EXPERIENCED BUYERS AND SELLERS. UNTIL BARNEYS, NEW YORK, CLOSED, WE SPENT MANY YEARS AS THEIR NATIONAL FINE VINTAGE JEWELER. TODAY WE ARE A BY APPOINTMENT AND ONLINE GALLERY FOR OUR PRIVATE CLIENTS, AND SELL SELECTED WORKS AT EXCLUSIVE STORES IN PALM BEACH AND NANTUCKET, AND ON A BRITISH GLOBAL DESIGN-LED LIFESTYLE PLATFORM. (YOU WILL HEAR MORE ABOUT THEM)WE PLACE JEWELRY IN MUSEUM COLLECTIONS AND WORK CLOSELY WITH DEALERS, CURATORS, AND SCHOLARS.
Our business model preserves and reuses existing modern-vintage jewels and thereby contributes broadly to a more sustainable environment. We also partner with contemporary jewelers who create alternatives to detrimental mining and gem extraction. We hear the voices of Indigenous peoples whose attitudes towards Nature, animals, and raw materials may differ from those of many of us.
We are also known as a significant collector of jewelry made by Maison Chaumet during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, designed by FAMED Pierre Sterle and HOUSE DESIGNER René Morin, AMONG OTHERS. Some of it WAS for the unique L’Arcade collection, appealing to the more on-trend, design-conscious, younger buyers who emerged in the 1970s. THIS HOUSE KNOWN FOR ITS ASSOCIATION WITH THE HOUSE OF NAPOLEON BONAPARTE USED BOTH ITS EXCLUSIVE, TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES AND RADICAL 1970s DESIGNS IN HEAVILY TEXTURED GOLD AND MIRROR POLISH GOLD TO CREATE JEWELS THAT WILL RESONATE FOREVER.
”This New York Jewelry Gallery Is Offering up a Treasure Trove of Vintage Watches. MAHNAZ COLLECTION’s first formal collection of timepieces will include rare finds with fascinating histories” by Paige Reddinger, deputy editor and watch Editor, The Robb Report
We invest in once-known, lost-to-history jewelers, and critical contemporary jewelers who are not fully recognized, from Angelo Giorgio Cazzaniga in Rome during the 1950s to Indigenous Native American artist-makers or art jewelers today. We invest in research, original publications, and exhibitions for these makers because their exceptional artistry and craftsmanship, design ideas, and storytelling merit collectors and museum interest, as well as the affection of an array of jewelry lovers. We actively sell their work.
