Spring is finally here and it is only fitting that the radiant, lush emerald is this month's birthstone. "Nothing greens greener," Rome's Pliny the Elder writes about the emerald in his book Natural History, published in the first century AD. He describes the stone's use by lapidaries, who “have no better method of restoring their eyes than by looking at the emerald, its soft, green color comforting and removing their weariness and lassitude.”
